I have never had this kind of pain associated with a period, actually I don't know if I have ever felt cramps this bad. It feels as if I am having massive contractions. I can feel it from my pelvis all the way through my back and down my thighs. I took 2 tylenol xtra strenght and got NO relief, I just took two more. What is the next thing I can do. I can't spend the day like this I am in too much pain. I know we can't take nsaids, I am allergic to any codones. Have any ideas? |

Hugs,
Rita When chosing a Bariatric Surgeon, please visit your state's Superior Court website to research his/her background and any pending or past lawsuits. If I had done this one simple thing when I was pre-op, I would have chosen a different surgeon and not endured a second surgery. The 'Center of Excellence' rating is not enough. It's a synthetic codeine-like opiate, but it doesn't really feel too much like a typical opiate, nor does it have much of any potential for abuse. You might also bring this up with your GYN; s/he may be able to address the big picture.
Unfortunately, NSAIDs like ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and naproxen (Aleve) work particularly well against menstrual cramps, because they specifically stop the production of prostglandins, chemical transmitters involved with uterine tone and the transmission of pain signals.
I wouldn't recommend to anyone to try NSAIDs on their own post-RNY, though some RNYers who are far out use them occasionally under the supervision of a physician, usually in combination with a PPI like Prilosec, to reduce these drugs' upper GI risks.

I was opposite, my FIRST period after my surgery was the period from hell !! It hurt so freakin bad and I could'nt understand why. I was doubled over and the only thing I could take was liquid loratab or percocet. Tylenol sucks !!! Tramadol works pretty good when I don't have any percocet .
Hope you get to feeling better!

I just talked to my dr Wednesday and asked about this. He said I could have a few midol if I was taking the prilosec or prevacid. He said a couple now and then would not hurt.
I think you should ask your dr for yourself just to be sure. He said we should not be taking these on a regular basis.
Hope you feel better soon, I know what you mean!!
God bless!

Cristy TX Member Since: 01/12/07 [Latest Posts] | Post Date: 7/4/08 6:36 pm Do you have any left over pain medicine from after surgery? I know how bad my cramps get and one of those little pills (mine where sublingual) takes care of the pain all day.
