DaBear's Kitten South Central PA, PA Member Since: 08/05/06 [Latest Posts] | Post Date: 7/4/08 11:44 pm Everyday night I promise myself that I'lld o better. Eat better than I did yesterday. Exercise more and maybe even clean up my house more... better.
Today I hat 160 calories and that's it. Is a person really trying when that's all they ingest? I disappoint myself. I'm embarrassed beause I never thought that I'd have to force myself to eat. I do and sometimes it's overwhelming to the point of tears. I cry a little sometimes because I HAVE to eat. Constant torment to enjoy nothing, barely be able to tolerate anything and yet have to endure food. I'd rather not do it.
I take my vitamins pretty well but I don't do what I'm supposed to where it comes to protein and calories. I want to be better and stronger. Despite the fact that I know there are hundreds of people who have had this surgery, somehow I still feel alone in this.
I've heard people say they can't eat certain foods. I have even heard of lack of appetite. But, 160 calories? What is wrong with me? I want to do better.
I suppose this should have been a blog. Sorry. |

You are still pretty newly out so don't beat yourself up too bad. Some people just have a harder time getting food in early out! If you are doing what you can then it will have to be enough for now, just be sure to be getting your protein in. Are you doing protein shakes? It is normal to not be hungry and have to force yourself to eat. I am a year out and that is still me!
sending you some prayers and LOTS of hugs, Becky |

Linda_S Eugene, OR Member Since: 11/11/06 [Latest Posts] | Post Date: 7/5/08 12:01 am I remember the phase you are going through. Your stomach is much more comfortable, and you feel really well, when your stomach is empty, right? I've been there. Once you eat something, the churning and the gas and the intestinal cramps start and you thing, oh no, here we go again! I remember, I think it was my three-month visit with my surgeon, where I told him I wished I never had to eat again. He was a little upset with me. I said I realized I needed to, but I wasn't happy about it. Well, here I am, nearly a year out, and trust me. I can eat about anything. I've just come to a realization of what dumping is for me (instead of getting horribly sick, I just get really sleepy and occasionally have diarrhea). So, there is light at the end of the tunnel
For now, try eating gentle things that have good protein in them. I think I lived on yogurt, cottage cheese, and soup at your stage of the game. Find something you can eat that doesn't give you too much discomfort and do the very best you can. You don't want to ruin your health. Let us know how it goes or if there's anything else we can do to help.

I can't offer you any words of wisdom but just wanted to let you know I feel for you. Try to get some rest and hopefully some great advice will come your way. As you know, this is a wonderful board to get help with so I am sure someone will be of help.
Blessings,

CCRH NC Member Since: 09/20/07 [Latest Posts] | Post Date: 7/5/08 1:44 am Hi, there! My best advice would be: Try to just take one meal at a time, one day at a time, etc. Don't rush your tummy; but do your best to get those proteins and liquids in. I'm still somewhat "early out"; I'll let the experts answer this for you in more detail. But your post touched my heart; and so I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know I'm thinking of you!! Hugs! CCRH (Carmel)

Find something that you like that is different from what you have been having. I like the Jello sugar free pudding cups. They come in many flavors. I like the butterscotch. They go down easy. They help me to take my meds that I have crushed. You can also make your own Jello sugar free pudding from the instant pudding mixes they sell. . You have to eat other things of course but sometimes you have to have that old "comfort food" you like.
What do you like, that could fill that bill? I don't mean you can eat a lot of the NEW Comfort food items. But just have them when you are tired of all the other crap.
There must be something you like. I found the crab meat both real and imitation is great. It gives you protein and I find it is easy to eat because it is soft. I heat it up with a little butter and sometimes eat it with a piece of Hawaiian bread and butter.
Appetite is a hard thing````` fo figure out. I wonder if I am just thinking I am hungry because I am used to eating and having such large quantities. I get so hungry but I really don't eat very much when I do eat. But on a different time of day I can 3 or4 times as much. When I can't eat much it hurts. Then the hunger is over too, at that point. It is hard to eat when you feel pain.
I asked a lot of people before my surgery, "Do you still get very hungry?" The answer was usually, "Oh, no not at all" Well I find that not to be the case. I get very very hungry. But the good news is that I get full quickly. But it hurts real bad if I eat to fast or don't chew up the food well enough. Eating slowly and small bites really helps. But what is weird is, that later in the day I can eat larger amounts and faster and no problem. It is like the stomach is opening up as the day goes by. I know I have the DS but some the symptoms are alike yours.
Try some pudding, yogurt or something and get something going good for you and IN you.
I hope this helps you out. Bottom line right now is you are early out and give yourself a little time. I was like you too. I was worried about the vitamins and getting them IN. Don't worry about all the details now just get yourself running smoothly and then you can concentrate on the details and you will have the energy to do that.

Purple Passion Little Falls, NJ Member Since: 11/17/05 [Latest Posts] | Post Date: 7/5/08 8:06 am AchievOne is really good. I also like the Lean Desserts line of protein powders for a thick shake, and Nectars for a thinner drink. For a RTD, I really like Labrada Lean Body.
Have you tried:
Egg salad
Tuna Salad
Ricotta and sauce
Ricotta with spenda and cinnamon
Refried beans
I just wanted to give you some ideas. All of these foods sat well in my pouch for the first 6 months when things were testy. |

DaBear's Kitten South Central PA, PA Member Since: 08/05/06 [Latest Posts] | Post Date: 7/5/08 6:36 am I don't want days with absolutely nothing but I do think you are right. There are hgher intake days than others. Everything I really want is carbs. Grits, cream of wheat, crackers and such. I don't want to get in the habbit of making them staples again. Plus they make me so sleepy! |
