Surgeon Testimonial

Francis W. Teng, M.D.
Dr. Teng is extremely informative and thorough!!
I always say it's "Teng's way or NO WAY!!!". He starts off by telling every patient that they must be committed to his program or they can find a different surgeon.I have heard a few patients say that they feel like he's talking down to them. He's very adamant on how things will be done. He's one awesome surgeon!!
Going for my last appointment next Weds. and he warned me that he will be giving me a test(routine). He'll be asking about RNY and if he feels I don't have a total understanding he won't hesitate to push back surgery date! Last chance to weigh in(I've lost quite a bit this last month)any patient who hasn't lost at least 5% weight WILL GET their surgery delayed until they have! He's tough but he tells everyone that you're committed to HIS program the first 2 years post op.
His brother Dr.V.Teng is anesthesiologist on all of his cases.
Their sister,Tina, is an RN who runs their hectic office!
His asst. surgeon Dr. B. Hanna is a friend of mine who has been trying to get me in the OR for 3 years! When Tina called me and said I was approved;I called Bernie and said "You and I have a date on Dec 6th" He was excited as I was.
Dr Teng's program is intense and requires commitment but he tells patients that on their very first visit. He does 2 hour seminar/month for people looking into surgery. Every patient must attend his seminar first. He and Dr. Hanna hold the monthly support meetings. He is VERY involved with every aspect. Like I said earlier..."It's Teng's way or no way!!!"

Damn Plateaus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this list on breaking a stall. Lord knows I've hit a plateau(which is hanging out FOREVER) so I need all of the help I can get. Thanks, Pam for allowing me to "borrow" your list and here is the link to Pam.
http://pamtremble.blogspot.com/2008/09/breaking-stall.html

  • Are you tracking your food intake in a food journal? Is it on track?
  • Are you tracking every single calorie that passed your lips? (flavored water, vitamins, gum, single pieces of candy) Even if you aren't keeping track of calories, your body is!
  • Are you eating too MANY calories?
  • Are you eating too FEW calories?
  • Are you taking in enough protein? 80-100g/day
  • Are the fats you're eating healthy (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated)
  • Are you eating too many simple carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes, sugar, pasta, rice)
  • Are you eating enough fruits and veggies?
  • Are you drinking enough water (water flushes fat toxins from our body)?
  • Are you grazing?
  • Are you eating the right quantity? Measuring and weighting foods?
  • Are you eating on a schedule?
  • Are you exercising hard enough? Long enough? Fast enough?
  • When's the last time you changed your exercise routine? (The body becomes efficient and doesn't burn as many calories after we've done the same thing for 4-6 weeks)
  • Have you added weight training to your workouts? (muscle burns more calories at rest)
  • Are you taking all your vitamins and supplements?
  • Have you started taking any new medications that might promote weight gain?
  •
  • Have you taken your measurements (you might be losing inches even if the scale isn't moving)

WOW! WOW!! WOW!!!

WOW!!!!! I had the HUGEST WOW moment today. I was sitting in the back of Ron's Explorer Sport. Its a real PIA to get out of the back since it's a 2 door. It doesn't help that I'm so short(5'3"). Makes getting out a challenge. Well today Ron said..."I'll help...put your arms around my neck and get on my back; you're light enough". OMG!!!!!! my husband gave me a piggyback ride!!!!! Add this to the growing list of reasons why

I LOVE MY RNY!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is the time going to??? It's Novemember. I've been on this long;strange trip(yes...a line from Truckin' by the Grateful Dead!) for 11 months now. Yes...I officially am a medium or a size 12. WOOHOO!!!! Yes that makes me EXCITED.

Been BUSY!!! Orientation all of this week at St. Rose Hosp. Have to reapply for my charge position at Sunrise(yes...all 16 ICU charge nurses do)..they're deleting 2 positions on each shift so hoping I don't have to step down to staff. If so...thats why Plan B is already in place!

Lived through Halloween...EXCEPT...whats the deal with Laffy Taffy??? Why did I have to have 3-4 of the mini pieces every day for like 5 days??? WTF??? This was not a candy I went out of my way for pre-op. Thank God there's none left now.

I'm going to HURT the scale if it doesn't say bye-bye to the 180s STAT!!!! Of course it's the scale's fault...NOT MINE!!! On a positive note...since the scale is moving at a snail's pace...it's motivated me to get back on the elliptical EVERY DAY even if it's only 15 minutes.

Looking back...the first 8.5 months were a BREEZE... the past 2.5 months...I've been struggling...see tendencies in myself to go back to bad habits. The good news...YAY!!! I recognize that I'm acting this way so for this girl it's BACK TO BASICS.  Now is the time that I really need to use the knowledge and tools I've learned here and what Dr. Teng has taught me. Yes...he is supportive...yes at times I feel he's a little neurotic(goes overboard) but that's why I love him!!! I'm not a very religious person but I do take a few seconds every single day to Thank God for Cigna and Dr. Teng and for my second chance.

5 more months til I turn 50!!!! Hoping to still be a SKINNY 50 yo BIOTCH!!!

What's in MY CLOSET...10 1/2 months out!
on October 26, 2008 8:38 pm
I usually DON'T wear shapewear under scrubs but with t-shirts;sweaters;jeans I ALWAYS USE SHAPEWEAR. I like the Assets brand at Target...hold up really really well. The tanks/camis run $20...so I have a few different colors.

Yes at 5'3" I MUST wear petite lengths. Average length is a joke! Fave jeans...Gloria Vanderbilts; Lee Riders

Always get in my water...even if my diet strays...always get in the water

My skin sucks up lotion...yes that dry. Love any body butter from Bath and Body Works.

Undies- Gilligan &OMalley demi bras(again Target)are the best fitting bras I've EVER worn!! Again decent price $15.  OK...but I do wear thongs!! Hubby was asking why the change when he was doing laundry. I answered..."Because I CAN". OK I do wear full undies to work under scrubs. But always thongs with jeans. Is that TMI??????

My panni isn't too horrible...it doesn't hang terribly...my entire stomach has actually sized down proportionately.  The bat wings are HORRIBLE. I will only wear shirts with sleeves elbow length or longer. All of my friends tell me I overreact and that it I don't bring up the wings...they're NOT noticable. Sorry can't convince me of that.

My Story

Photobucket
I'm 48 y/o. Have lived in Las Vegas since 1985(grew up in NY). Been married for 23 years to a guy who still wears a size 30 waist;he eats constantly and I hate him!! LOL... I have 2 sons-Nick is 21y/o;Mike is 19. They're both small framed like dad;hate them too! They both wrestled in H.S. so there were times that they had to cut or maintain weight(yea;6-8 lbs. NOT 180!) They both wrestled well enough to become Nevada State Champions!!!!Not not too proud am I? Nick thought about wrestling in college and then decided,"I never want to have to cut weight again" I weighed 129 lbs @ age 21(and had to watch every morsel). Weighed 180 in 1986 after I had Nick. Weighed 185lbs. in 1988 after I had Mike. So I say that I'm still trying to lose the baby fat after 19 years!!! Too bad I've also gained 100+ lbs since then. Never had health issues until 2 years ago(minor) but it's time to do a 360 before minor issues compound into MAJOR ones.Ron(hubby)extremely supportive about my RNY(comes to all of my appointments). Nick-doesn't say much;Mike doesn't understand how I'll live the rest of my life only eating 2-3 ozs. of food @ time. But he's the one who said we'll have to go shopping for expensive designer clothes! Can't wait until 12/6/07-the first day of a new LIFETIME!!!
