Surgeon Testimonial

Paul Kemmeter, MD
He seems very nice and helpful. Everyone in the office is very friendly, and the new office is beautiful. He really emphasized the fact that this is not an "instant" cure, and I will definately have to make lifestyle changes in order for this to be successful. He gave me a book that lists everything that I might want to know about the risks of surgery and what to expect after surgery.

A little discouraged
on December 12, 2008 1:59 pm
  Hello,

I am still waiting to hear something about my surgery. I called and left a message with my Dr.'s nurse and I called my insurance company. No word yet.  The insurance company said they don't know anything about it yet. Does that mean my Dr.'s office is dragging their feet?  I really hope not.

I am so nervous that I have bit all of my nails off (nasty old habit). I just want to hear something.

Soon I hope!!

Last week I went to see my surgeon and the Bahavoirist. Now the waiting game begins.  They told me it would probably be at least 30 days now... I cannot believe I am this close to actually getting this thing! They told me that they see no reason why the insurance company would deny me, but we will see.  Wanted to keep everyone updated on my progress.  Have a great weekend!

Almost Beginning
on October 10, 2008 9:33 am
Since my last post I met with the Internist at the weight loss clinic. My insurance requires that I have a psych eval. This is in addition to the one that the weight loss clinic requires.  Let the fun begin, right :) I made that appointment and my initial evaluation with the surgeon next month. The internist told me that I have more complications from being obese than some people that she sees that need to lose 200 lbs. or more. She said the sooner I get the weight off, the better. I decided to do everything that I can to go ahead with surgery.  Now I am just nervous about how I am going to pay for everything. Hopefully, if it is meant to be, I will figure it all out.

I already feel better than I have in years. I cannot imagine what it will be like when I am not obese anymore. I can hardly wait!  I will try harder to keep this updated with my progress.

It's been a while...
on August 12, 2008 10:18 am
Well, it has been some time since I have written. I am half way through my supervised weight loss program. I have lost 30 lbs. I made my appointment yesterday for my initial consult with the surgeon. I have been really debating on whether I really should still get the surgery. I go back and forth. I have lost 30 lbs., but I have so much more to lose, and sometimes I get scared that I wont be able to continue to lose. I have had a really hard time the last month or so. That is why I went ahead and scheduled the appt. I will definately be able to lose the rest of my weight if I have the surgery, so what do I have to lose? POUNDS, of course! Our family went on vacation last month. We went camping. While we were camping we went to Grand Haven to see the fire works on the Fourth of July. Then we went to Michigan's Adventure and had a blast. We also went to the Detroit Zoo. My company, United Solar, had a company picnic and paid for everything. It is the best place in the world to work. I am uploading a family picture taken at the picnic.

My daughter had her extra pinky toe amputated last month. She has had a cast on her leg. It has really slowed her down--and me--in the process. We can't get out as much and do what we used to. She gets it removed on Aug. 21, just in time for our camping trip the following week. She has a pin in her foot, so I hope that it heals up enough for her to go swimming in Lake Huron.

We have had a really eventful summer! I am really enjoying life right now. Losing weight has made all the difference in my life, and I can't imagine how it will be when I lose ALL my weight.

What a busy day!
on May 5, 2008 11:08 am

I had my first appointment with the Weigh To Go program today. The girls there are very nice. This program consists of a nutrition program, an exercise program, and a wellness program (which I am guessing will focus on my emotional eating). So far I made some goals. My dream goals are: To be able to stop taking my blood pressure and diabetic meds; to ultimately be able to wear a size 14 again; and to make healthier foods and choices for my family. My exercise/physical activity dream goals are to be able to keep up with my kids, and to have the energy to be active after working (which I NEVER have now.)

For a 3 month goal I have decided to learn how to fix some better/healthier meals for my family and what to buy or look for when I go to the store. Another goal is to lose 5# (I think I can lose more, but I don't want to overwelm myself.) I am going to try to ride my bike 3x/wk and walk my dogs 3x/wk. We also discussed what I need to do to achieve these goals or my barriers to achieving these goals.

At least now I have some tools and something to look forward to. My next appointment is next Wednesday, where we will make up a meal plan for me. I also hope to be able to schedule my fitness appointment for that day also.

Well, after all that I had to take my daughter to the orthopedic specialist for her pinky toe. She was born with an extra one on her left foot. She is going to have it removed in July. It is going to be really hard to go through that with her--my poor baby :(

I then went back to the WTG office for a group class on the importance of eating breakfast and how to schedule time for exercise.

I am finally home--Whew! What a busy day!!!
