Surgeon Testimonial

Ibrahim Ibrahim, M.D.
When I met Dr. Ibrahim, I had a very good impression of him. He made me feel very comfortable and more relaxed. His surgery cooridnator is excellent. They seem very caring. They run the support group.

They have the best staff around. They have turned their program into a full service program. They keep you in the loop. If you are denied they try to work with you with exercise and nutrition. They have a structured aftercare program. Much more evolved then when I first had the surgery.

What I like the best about them is that they really care and fight for you. You are not just another number to them. My impression of them only gets better with time.

Christine Robinson was the best. Without her I would have never won my appeal for my revision. She knows her stuff. She fights the insurance companies etc.

My Story

Well my story begins in 1964 when I was born.   I was very thin until 11 years old.   My entire family execpt for me was obese.  By the time I was 13 I was 212 pounds.  My weight yo yoed up and down until 1991 when I got married.  Maybe I was more aware of my weight while dating.   By the time my son was born in 1994 I weighed about 250 pounds.   About a year after he was born I was 100 pounds over weight.  I tipped the scales at 355 pounds in 2002 when I decided to have Gastric Bypass Surgery.

I started having high blood pressure.  I turned Diabetic.  I couldn't stand more then 5 minutes because the back pain was horrible.   I didn't leave the house other then work or special occasions.  I felt awful.

I lost 165 pounds within the first 6 months I think.  I started gaining weight back and had a revision in 2005.  I lost 30 pounds and got down to 205.   I had major spinal surgery in Sept. 2006 and have gained 20 pounds back.  Not allowed to do anything but sit around.  I started therapy so maybe that will help.   I've been eating everything in sight.  Depression? Boredom?  Who knows.  I want to get back on track so hopefully I can.

Now my back is all screwed up.   I had a herniated disc and slipped vertbrae.  At 42 years old there is arthritis.  Now I had the major spinal surgery where they put two rods and 6 screws in.  The back surgery has changed my life.   I am limited now for the rest of my life on activity.  There is no medical reason why my back turned out this way.  They say it could have been the weight pulling foward for so many years.  Who knows.

Well, it is July 26th.    Tomorrow night is my retirement party.  Had to put in for early retirement because I cann't work anymore with the back pain and other medical problems.   I actually never got back to work after the Sept. 2006 spinal fusion.    I had gained back about 40 pounds after the back surgery.    I basically had no activity for two months after.  Now I started walking.  It is the only exercise I can do.  I also went to a weight loss program and lost 20 pounds so that is good.   I still cannot eat alot but I can eat all day if that makes sense.  To make it worse, two of the meds I take have a side effect of weight gain.   It never ends.

I've been away from this site for a very long time.   Now all my time is focused on my back pain.  Plus it is hard to sit too long to be on the computer.

I will always be grateful for the surgery and the revision.   It was the best thing I ever did.  I don't know how I would function with the back pain if I still weighed 355 lbs.  It is bad enough at 230lbs.   When I look back at pictures it is like looking at someone else.   In my head I will always see fat though.  The extra skin is horrible.   Had too many surgeries to even think about having it taken care of.   I have an 11th surgery pending for my elbow.   I think every body part will be fixed one day.  LOL

Hope everyone searching or having surgery gets everything they are looking for.
