Surgeon Testimonial

Guillermo Alvarez M.D.
I have researched long and hard to find the right one. I have never heard anything bad about Dr. A. My Gyn Dr. had even heard of him with nothing negative to say. only good.

Susan has been very easy to reach. Always very pleasant talk to. she has been such a wonderful resource. The process has been very easy as well. I've been very pleased so far.

First impression of Dr. A?.....smells great :)

How did my impression change?..... He was very meticulous, caring, giving, down to earth, conscienscous, and very excited about his profession and helping people.

His office and staff are very nice, staff very helpful.

There was nothing not to like.

Not to be concerned about having the surgery with him in Mexico. It was all so well worth it. Not even the money being the issue, but the care recieved by Dr. A and his associate physician.

He did emphasize the importance of aftercare and sticking to the guidelines he had given me. His confidence in my wellbeing at discaharge was very reassurring to me.

I would rate him at 10++++ overall. I would say that his competence as a surgeon educated in this procedure was the most important part to me but he also has one of the best bed side manners I have seen.

Susan called me after I had been discharged to check on me, she has always been great and continues to be.

Rosie, well what can you say. She is just as wonderful as can be. Very comforting and makes you feel well taken care of. She has an important part of setting up the hotels, and making sure everyone is picked up at the appropriate times. She coordinates everything very well.

God bless each and everyone of these people.

4 months and counting!!
on August 5, 2008 10:05 am
Yep, it has been 4 months. I can't believe it. I still feel really good. None of the health problems have returned. That is my blessing. 50lbs!! WOW!!  Feels really good. I am wearing size 10;s and 8's. I actually have been in a size 6 Old Navy jeans (maybe made bigger or something). Of course all the extra skin is gross. But I already have plans on taking care of that later.   Will try really hard to keep updating. This has been such a wonderful journey. Thank you God, my family, Dr. Alvarez, and my retirement plan.

on July 5, 2008 1:29 am

I really love my sleev.  I am just getting the hang of how it works. but in the 3 days shy of 3 months i have lost 45 lbs.  Am I happy? Well yes I am.  I really don't see it in me as much as what others see.  I have had some things at work that has kept me busier so my exercise has been flailing somewhat.  But I am trying to get back on track.   I am wearring a size8 now. whoohoo!!! I had origionally thought my goal weight should be about 150.  but then I thought it would be great if I can get to 135. so I'll try.     Thanks for listening.  jac

The big 2 mth anniverssary!!!!
on June 8, 2008 9:22 pm
Happpy, Oh Gosh yes am I happy.  I go through these terrible long stalls then out of the blue they are over, I am thanking Jesus at that point,  I think it is just going to be a part of my normal routine. I have a wonderfully brilliant and fun weekend with my best friend vicki and her boys. Like I have said before, she is my biggest support. we really  had  a good time just hangout aroung the house , baking in the pool, watching the kids, and just having alot of time to catch up on things we don't always get to talk about. I just love her No no beer for me, but she was able to come up with a concoxtion that worked. No carbonation, can sip it. worked well, lemonaide mixed with berry pucker and ice, all crushed together like a margarita.  was Wonderful!!  She loves me.

I am going to the health food store tomorrow. I can't believe how much I have lost. I can't wait to see where I am at 2 months out.

One Month Surgiversary
on May 7, 2008 2:53 am
It has been a difficult last 2+ weeks. I did not think I would have a stall so early on. I just seem to be losing slow. That is ok. I will take what I can get. I just have to remember all of the good things that have happened to me since this surgery.  I continue to be without INSULIN!!  My blood pressure is also been normal, so no more b/p meds.  I go to my endocrinologists next week. I can't wait to see my labs. I bet they are all so much better. well for one month out I have dropped 20lbs!!! I will take pictures and post them. I can easily wear my daughters size 14 capris. I started at 18. and 2-3x tops. now xl.  LOVE MY SLEEV

My Story

My story really does not start until after I married the man of my dreams. We had a baby in 1992. He was stillborn and we became pregnant again and had another baby in 1993. He was a healthy 9# 3oz wonderful boy. After the 2 pregnancies I went from 150lbs to 226lbs.  I had depression after my 2nd son because i had not grieved appropriately from my first son.  My honeyman has always placed me on a pedastool and does many things for me. He is a wonderful husband but I have become very dependent on him.  I have become lazy and don't take care of things as I should.  During my second pregnancy I became diabetic.  I now am so insulin resistant it takes massive amounts of insulin to control my blood sugars. I take a new med called Byetta. It works better but does make me very nauseated.  In the mean time, I did have a daughter in 1996. She is just like me (scarey).  I have begun to think less and less of myself.  The only thing that I feel I am good at is my job.  I don't let me feelings about my health, weight, or self dislike effect my job.  I am a registered nurse.  I have been for 16 years.  I am a shift manager in a womens center.  I have never had insurance that would cover any of these surgeries. Even though I have comorbidities.  High blood pressure - Altace, High cholesterol - Vytorin, Diabetes - Byetta & Lantus insulin.  Now I think I have enough money in my retirement to withdraw out to help cover the procedure.  I am wanting the gastric sleeve.  Any feedback I can get I appreciate it.
