Surgeon Testimonial

Mark A. Shina, M.D.
What can I say? He rocks! The humor is there if you search for it, but above and beyond the man knows his stuff. Isn't that the best reason to pick a surgeon?

Shopping
on September 24, 2008 5:34 pm
Shopping for clothes is now something I enjoy.  I'm no longer in the plus size section.  WOO HOO.  I wear 14 / 16 pants and L-X/L shirts.  It's almost time for my 7 month pic, so I'll have to model a new outfit.

Saturday morning....
on August 30, 2008 1:56 am

My dachshund had puppies, and woke me up this morning at 4:30am.  No, not to HAVE the puppies but to bring one of said puppies into our bedroom.  Argh.  Here it is 4:57am and I'm wide awake.

My husband had his gastric bypass this past Monday, and is doing great.  I dare say, even better than I did.  I can't wait until we can do things together - ride bikes, take long walks - endless opportunities.....

Woot woot....I bought a pair of 14 capris.  Granted, I purchased them at Avenue, but still....size 14.  HOLY COW.  I'm so excited I can barely stand myself.

A Wow Moment....
on June 14, 2008 2:50 pm
I went shopping for some new clothes today, and still had the mindset that I needed the BIGGEST size I could find.  I took a few pair of capris in the dressing room (size 24) and they were huge on me.  Oh my.  I went back out and got two more pairs - one 20, one 18.  The 18 fit.  I sat down in that little tiny corner bench and had myself a good cry.  A happy cry.

Prior to this surgery I felt so bad about myself that I hated shopping.  I hated  stretchy pants and knit tops.  I hated them because that was the only way I could fit into clothes.  Now, as I lose weight and feel better about myself shopping is once again a pleasure.  I can buy CHEAPER clothes.  I can shop in normal stores - not just Lane Bryant or Avenue.  Oh, happy me - to enjoy life again is such a thrill.

It's been a little over three months....

.....and I can't believe what a difference this has made in my life.  I'm living life now, not letting it pass me by.  I can do things again - like mowing my yard, working in my yard, housework, playing with my dachshunds.   I enjoy doing things again.  I truly feel this surgery has saved my life - heck it's given me a life.  I can't wait to see my surgeon this Wednesday....he gets a big old THANK YOU.

My Story

I've been overweight the majority of my life.  I've always been the fat girl with a sense of humor.  Of course, deep down I was the depressed girl just trying to cope with day to day life.  Food has almost always been my favorite companion - it was there for me whether I was happy, sad, bored, anxious....you name the state and I let food join in to help me ride the wave.

Recently my life took a drastic turn when I was diagnosed with diabetes.  I've been struggling with the need to change my life, since that day in April.  I know that if I don't do something now, I'm only going to continue to go downhill.  I've come to the conclusion that I need help, and the road I have chosen has brought me here.
