Surgeon Testimonial

Earl Noyan, MD
My first impression of Dr. Noyan is that he is very helpful and caring. He considers his patients to be top priority. My impression didn't change over time because he has been great since the first visit. Dr. Noyan introduces the support group to patients upon their first visit to let them gain more insight into the Bariatric procedures and what is the best option for you. I highly recommend Dr. Noyan and his staff for the wonderful support that they've given me.

Wow it's been a while!
on November 21, 2008 7:46 pm
Geez, I just realized that I haven't been on this site in forever, so I figured I'd do some kind of update!

Well on Tuesday November 25, 2008 I will be 5 months post-op. That also happens to be my 25th birthday (WOOHOO!) lol. I am down 75 lbs. so far. My BMI has been under 30 for a few weeks now, so I'm super happy about that.

My fiance and I just did an engagement photo shoot 2 weeks ago. One of my long term goals was for him to be able to pick me up, and also to lose 75 lbs. by my birthday (which I met a few days ago!!) so here is the proof that my fiance can pick me up now!

Great things have been happening and I swear I've never been so thankful for anything in my life. This has been the best decision I've ever made, and I am so glad I got my life back on track.

I'll update more later, but right now I'm a bit sleepy. Thanks for reading!

26 days post-op update
on July 21, 2008 10:14 am
Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't posted on here in forever but I figured I would now since I have some time.

Right now I am still dealing with the tiredness issue. I wake up in the morning and I feel like total crap. It takes me a good 2-3 hours after waking up to gain some energy and feel okay. I still have a hard time walking up stairs (never had an issue before surgery) because of the strength it takes. I went to the Yankees game yesterday and I had to do a LOT of walking and it took every ounce of energy out of me to not pass out. Don't get me wrong - I drank lots of water, drank protein before I left, took my multivitamin and b12 and I still felt exhausted.

I can't eat very much at all. If I do, I throw up.. I haven't dumped yet.. but I have thrown up food. I am doing the best that I can with eating slow, chewing 30 times and the such. But some things don't agree with me.

Other than that, the weight is coming off thankfully. I am down to 220 now, which is 23 lbs. less than when I went into surgery 26 days ago! I still fit into my fat jeans (with a belt!) so I am a bit disappointed about that, but a lot of my shirts fit sooo much better. I am trying to be patient and get as much advice from others so I can keep myself on track.

That's about it for now. Hope all is well with everyone!

6 day post-op update
on July 1, 2008 6:29 pm
Hi everyone.

Just thought I'd share about how I've been lately. I came home from the hospital on Saturday, 3 days after surgery. My hospital stay was horrible. I don't really know how people say to bring reading material, an iPod or any kind of entertainment, cause the whole time I was there I was wanting to do nothing but sleep! When I turned the tv on, I ended up flipping through the mere 20 or so channels available and just turned it off.

Friday was my worst day there. The anesthesia was wearing off and I had a horrible case of nausea and vomiting. At first I was vomiting just spit, then it was blood. But I was very glad to have that NG tube taken out! I can't remember if they removed it on Thursday or early Friday.

So I came home, things were fine. I rested for a while and waited for my dad to come home with my prescription pain meds. Then I hopped in the shower as easily as I could. That was a bit rough because I became weak in my knees and calves.

On Sunday, I started taking my calcium citrate, multivitamin, and b-12. I also try to get in atleast 48 oz. of liquid protein throughout the day.

Like I said, weakness and lightheadedness has been a huge problem. I can only stand for up to 5 - 10 minutes and I am trying to up that by walking more and getting in more liquids and walking more.

I've been having good and bad days since I came home. Some days I wake up and feel great and others I feel like I got hit by a bus, I can't lie. I've been checking my temperature lately and it spiked to 100.4 so I kinda panicked and got a cool shower with some help from my fiance, and also used some cool rags on my head. I also had my fiance buy me some liquid Tylenol on his way home. It went down to 99.4 within a few hours so I am happy about that.

Well, right now I believe I am down 13 lbs. in 6 days. Not too bad !!!

I will keep everyone updated as I can.

My Story

Hi! My name is Eleni and I'm from South Jersey. I am engaged to a wonderful, supportive guy named Jason. We're getting married 10/31/09 in a Halloween ceremony. And I hope to be a thin bride:)

I've been on the WLS journey since February 18th, 2008. I went to a surgeon and gathered some information at a session he was having regarding the different types of WLS. I received a paper from the lady who worked there who told me there was a $1600 program fee due before the date of surgery. I figured I'd bite the bullet and pay it. So I came in for my next scheduled visit/meeting and realizing how much money it was, and how the surgeon himself did not offer any support group meetings, I opted to find another surgeon.

I found Dr. Noyan through this fabulous site! My first visit with Dr. Noyan was on March 13th, 2008. He has been so helpful throughout these past few months. I did my visits to the Psych, two visits to the Pulmonologist (who also requested a sleep study- later found out I have Moderate Sleep Apnea!), three nutritionist visits, three support group meetings (which obviously I am going to continue attending post-op), and four visits to my surgeon. Not to mention creating a food journal for three months and submitting it to my nutritionist. It was a lot of work, but I know it will be well worth it in the end. I know the insurance companies can be a pain but I did everything required, all the while maintaining my weight.

I had Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery on Wednesday June 25, 2008 around 11 am. I was in surgery for about 2-2 1/2 hours and my recovery was very rough. I came home on Saturday June 28, 2008 at 1 pm and I was basically weak and very exhausted for about a week. This is not the norm for most RNY patients. Every situation is different for each person of course. In the weeks following surgery you can see my updates in my blog. Please read it if you'd like!

I hope to find out more about all of you! It's great to be able to come to OH and relate to people who are going through the exact same things.

Good luck to everyone!
