Surgeon Testimonial

James Foote, M.D.
Dr Foote is wonderful surgeon. My experience with him and his staff was wonderful. The program the follow is structured and supportive and I felt I went into the surgery well informed and ready for the change that was about to happen in my life. Dr Foote has a great bedside manner and has a sharp sense of humor and always has a smile on his face or words of encouragement. He answered many of the questions I had before I even had the chance to ask them. The physician assistants that work with that particular group of surgeons is also very knowledgeable and I feel comfortable continuing my after care with them in the future.

Tuesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

I am 36 years old, married, and I have three teenagers. I work as an RN at one of the area hospitals in Critical Care/Telemetry.  I guess I was always overweight from the furthest time I can remember.   I didn't really feel the effects until the last few years. I have always worn larger sizes but everyone always tells me "you carry your weight well."  Considering I am under five feet tall I don't see how that could be.  I have multiple health problems caused by my obesity.  I have decided to have RNY because of the success many of my coworkers have had.  I have a huge family history of cardiac problems and many of my relatives have died with obesity associated problems. I don't want to!!!

BEACH BUMS!!
on August 12, 2008 5:05 pm

Hey all... Busy summer so far... just hanging out with the teens and spending some quality hours with my nephews. Working lots of overtime this summer too.  I have been in a stall for about a month but otherwise I have doing quite well.  My oldest son starts drivers training next week and that scares me a bunch. Trying to deal with that :) and the shock of thee jump in my car insurance.  My dad also has to have stents put in his heart again next week. He has known for awhile it needed to be done but they finally got around to scheduling it.  Also my younger brother was just diagnosed with a serious chronic health problem. That has been stressful too. Before RNY I would have just eaten myself into a tizzy. Now I have some healthier coping mechanisms. It just amazes me how often I used to turn to food.... not that an occasional slice of pizza doesn't sneek up on me :)  But overall I think emotionally and physically things have really changed for the better. LOVE MY RNY!!
Peace

Life Goals Realized....sort of
on July 3, 2008 5:02 am
It will be 7 months tomorrow since this incredible journey has begun.  I am a little nostalgic today for several reasons. On June 30th I passed a mile stone I never thought I would make based on my health and family history.  My mom died at the age of 36 from a sudden ruptured brain aneurysm that was complicated/encouraged by her obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and general neglect of her health.  She died in less than 24 hours.  I never thought I would live to be 37 years old. Before surgery I had all the same health problems just about.... a chronic headache from my blood pressure (I was sure it was an aneurysm at the time) and I felt like a ticking time bomb!!!  On June 30th I turned 37 years old.  One life goal accomplished but I have so much more as well... I am not diabetic, my blood pressure is more on the low side now, I am overweight as of today and no longer obese. THANK YOU!!
On a happier note.  I also have not weighed under 150 lbs since my daughter was born 13 years ago. Today that happened too.
I am taking my best friend in the whole wide world today to have her EGD before priority health with approve her for her surgery some time this summer.  I wish for her to have all these gifts and many more. She deserves them more than anyone I know.  HERE's to life goals and dreams come true.  Thanks everyone for your support and kindness. OH Rocks!! CHEERS TO ALL!! (Clanking glasses of warm SF cocoa or coffee still to flipping early to think about anything else) LOVE YOU GUYS!!

6 Month Check Up
on June 3, 2008 8:22 pm
Half a year already!! Can't believe it.  I am losing slower than I would like. Todd reminded me today I have lost over 1/4 of my total body weight in 6 months. Kinda put things into perspective. Still loving my RNY and am greatful for the blessing and the gift it has been to me.  I have resolved to be much more active and be more careful about the ready made diet dinners.  They are usually low fat but are high in sodium and carbs which is disaster for me.  I get hungry so quickly afterward. I have resolved to stop it and to eat more naturally--meat and veggies work best for me no breads or pasta.  I am also a cracker junkie. I eat everything with a couple saltines. I have resolved to stop that too.  Todd was wonderful as usual and supportive. MMPC has been so supportive through this whole journey. Feeling lucky today... Peace to all and happy thoughts

Stair Diving... Not my favorite sport!!
on May 27, 2008 5:49 pm
It is not as fun as it may sound!! Fell down the stairs at work today quite by accident because I was running late.... Fell flat on my face in front of some suit from the corporate office. He hollered for security and they all came running down and wanted to pick me up off the floor. Thought all I hurt was my pride but as the day went on I had a harder time breathing and my left ankle swelled and stiffened right up. After 3 hours in the medi-center the work uses for injuries I am home with a pulled/strained,maybe torn left achilles tendon and bruised ribs.  Had to leave the hospital to receive medical attention??? Pretty F'd up I thought.   I am on work restriction for now.   I can sit down.... Not much I can do at work I don't think. I work in an intensive care unit at a hospital as an RN. So basically no patient care... CRUD!!!  So, pain meds, air cast, and crutches are my friends for at least another week. I go to see them again the same day I go to see Todd at MMPC.  I think I will go see Todd first. He is my fav. Peace!!

on April 25, 2008 5:01 am
Took my CCRN exam yesterday!! Passed it!! I am Cathi BS, BSN, RN,CCRN.... Look at all those initials   Penney and I are going to NTI ( a huge nursing conference in Chicago) with 7 other RN's from our unit at work. Should be a blast. We are going the first week in May. Everyone says it is a mind blowing experience. Can't wait!!! It has been a good week. I am staying in the 150's and I am solidly into a size 8 pair of Levis and a large top.  The girls are shrinking and looking pathetic  but life is good!!
Peace and sunshine in MI

My Story

As mentioned above I have always been overweight. I completed the MMPC medical weight loss program last year and immediately gained the weight back plus 10 lbs.  I have failed on just about every diet you can imagine......  I am having WLS for my future.  I want to have one!!  I love my life and want to live another 40 years without the medical problems I have already!!  I want to run, jump, swing, play, ski, hike, and roll my way to where I want to go without being winded or exausted.  I have three teenagers to keep up with and they have been stopping to wait for me long enough!  Time to start moving!!! RNY here I come!!
