First Class Complete
on December 8, 2008 3:37 pm
Today I completed my first weight management class. It was okay. I was one of the two people out of about 40 that is getting gastric bypass. Most of the other members are looking into gastric banding. I could not believe some of the negative comments when I said that I wanted the bypass surgery. I would think people that are going through a similar struggle would be more sensitive.

Okay, I  gonna make a statement that may get me some negative comments, but I have to say it. Since I been going through this whole WLS process I've met a lot of really great folks. However, and a big HOWEVER I've met a lot of complaining whining fat people. Come on you guys, lets not feed the stereotypes about fat people.

Weight Management Class
on November 28, 2008 6:26 pm
Today, I received a call from the hospital's weight management program. I scheduled appointments for the first three months of my program. Yay! I had to pay a non-refundable fee of a hundred dollars, that sucked, but oh well. My surgeon told me that the whole process should cost me five hundred dollars. Which includes all the specialist's copay, classes, and pre-opt diet. No worries! It's worth every penny and more!

The Consult
on November 25, 2008 5:09 pm
So, I had my consultation on Monday, November 24, 2008. All went well... I have to complete a six month workshop along with all the standard test. Dr. Irgau thinks that I'm a good candidate for the RNY gastric bypass, which is cool. If everything goes smoothly that should put my surgery sometime in June. I was planning to go to the Bahamas this June, but I'll be all to happy to but it off for my new tummy.

PCOS
on November 20, 2008 1:16 pm
So, I had an appointment with the endocrinologist today. I have PCOS! After all the years of wondering and trying to figure out what's going on with my body I finally have some answers. It's unfortunate that I have this disorder, but at least I know now what it is and ways to correct or lessen the symptoms. Good news is I'm on the right track with WLS. Hopefully after I lose the weight my body will began to heal.

Seminar done and over
on November 19, 2008 9:18 pm
I went to my WLS seminar tonight! I really had a great time. It was nice to be in a room full of people that are going through a similar situation. I didn't met my surgeon yet (Wow, I have a surgeon!) , but I met his colleague. He seemed like a pretty good guy. My consultation is scheduled for 11/24/08. I'm so happy and feel very at peace with my decision. My only wish is that I had done this two years ago when I first thought about it.

Just a side note.
My doggie, Carter turn a year old today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARTER! Mama loves you!

My Story

So, my name is Lonye. I am 25 years old and as some of you may guessed I have a weight problem. I've been over weight since i was about fourteen years old. Most of my family members are overweight and I just excepted that this is what I am suppose to look like and how life is suppose to go. Besides who would I be if I wasn't the cute, funny, chubby girl? Right? But on October 23, 2008 a series of events began that would change my life. My OBGYN sent me to a reproductive endocrinologist, because my cycle were irregular and I wanted to start a family (in the next year or so .) The doctor told my that it would be "malpractice" for him to aide me because of my weight and suggested weight loss surgery and return in a year. WOW! I was shocked, to say the least. I know I was fat, but I didn't realize it was that bad.

After some serious thinking I went to my doctor and requested a referral. My doctor put me on a diet for a month and said he would be happy to refer me to a specialist after I try "his diet". I guess the hundreds of other diets I've tried don't count, but okay I'll go for it. Since that time I have had lots of blood work and have done tons of research on the subject. I scheduled an appointment to go to a seminar on November 19. After all I have to do something. If I continue the way I am living. I'll be fat and childless next year and the year after that.....So, the journey begins!
