Surgeon TestimonialTrace CurryI think for me it was a God send to find Dr. Curry. When I went in for my consultation I was greated with lots of smiling faces. I was so impressed to see that everyone that worked there was happy. How often does that happen? What a great group he has working with him. I was so excited about the fact that with self pay your fee includes one year of post op care. From my research this is a very important part of having the surgery. He's located only 3 miles from my office which is great. He was very open and honest with me and answer the questions and concerns I had. I have emailed Dr. Curry a couple of times with questions and I have received emails back within a half an hour or less. I just feel like they are there for me. I will update more after surgery.
Okay, now that surgery is over....Dr. Curry came to see me for a few minutes just before surgery. He did his thing then he left the rest up to his trusting staff. I have not seen him since the few minute visit just prior to surgery. The surgical areas look great. He did an excellent job.

November 16th, 2008 - - Happy Sunday! 3 days ago
Wow...time flies when you are having fun. It has been a while since I've posted. I've been so busy with Chelsie (senior pictures), Gary (upcoming knee surgery), dad (Alzheimer's), housecleaning and decorating for Thanksgiving and on top of all that working 60 hours a week. Am I busy or what? I'm hanging around 166lbs - 170lbs...depending on whether or not I use the bathroom LOL. I'm wearing a size 12 jeans (not the stretch kind) and some 8/10 tops. I use to wear my clothes very loose and now I like them to fit nice--not too tight, just right.
I spent the day doing some laundry, grocery shopping and then came home and cut out a wooden snowman box that I had seen on Saturday at a craft show. It is so cute. I'll take a pic once I've finished it. As you know I love all that primitive, whimsical stuff. The older looking the better. I went to the Goodwill last weekend and found a gossip bench. I painted it white and stained it. Re-did the seat in black and offwhite checks. It is very primitive and looks so cute. I just need an old phone to sit on it.
Anyway...life is just life I guess. Things happen that you don't understand, but you know it has to happen. I lost my uncle last week of cancer. He was told a week before he died that he had lung cancer and had 6 months to live. He died a week later. He was a very sophisticated man, nice and good hearted. He was in his right mind and enjoyed getting out and doing things. I have to wonder why he had to go when my poor father is lost in himself and must remain here. I know there is a reason, but it is hard to understand when you watch the one you love slowly slip into another world that you can't reach. The emotions of Alzheimer's is almost overbearing. When left becomes right and right left, when wet is dry and dry is wet. When you have to spend two hours telling them who you are and yes you are the same person who's taken care of them for months now. It all is so hard to watch.
Well...on a positive note...I guess...I am celebrating the 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday on Wednesday. I was just 16 yesterday...where has the time gone?

November 5th, 2008 - - RNY Friendly Pumpkin Roll on November 5, 2008 5:42 pm
I am so into cooking and baking things that are appropriate for Gastric Bypass Patients. I would love to have my own book and/or cookbook like Maria Leach and Carnie Wilson. Of course...they have nothing on me. My latest creation is "Pumpkin Roll" and is very very low in sugar. The marshmellow cream provides the sugar (12g in entire recipe) I found this recipe on the internet and adapted it some. This picture is of the one I baked tonight. Next time I make it I will throw in some Any Whey in the cake mix to give it some protein. I just tasted it and it is YUMMY!!

Cake
-1cup Splenda sugar substitute
-2/3 cup Pumpkin
-3 eggs
-3/4 cup King Arthur Wheat Flour
-1/2 tsp cinnamon
-1tsp salt
-1 tsp baking soda
-3/4 cup pecans, chopped
Filling
-1 cup powdered sugar (Mock powdered sugar is 1cup Splenda and 1tsp cornstarch dry blended well)
-4 tbs. marshmellow cream
-1 (8 oz) cream cheese, room temp
-1 tsp vanilla
-2 tbs butter
1. Preheat Oven to 350.
2.Grease Cookie Sheet and place wax paper over it. (I also spray Wax Paper with cooking spray)
3.Pour batter over wax paper and sprinkle with nuts.
4.Bake 10 minutes or until cake springs up. (If you over bake your cake will not roll)
5. Sprinkle with a little of the powdered sugar
6.Turn cake out on clean dish towel and peel off wax paper
7. Roll lengthwise with the towel and place in freezer for 20 min.
8.While cake is in freezer, mix filling by adding all ingredients and mixing until smooth
9.Take cake out of freezer and unroll
10. Spred filling all over cake
11. Roll back without dish towel
12. Wrap in foil and freeze
13. Remove 15 minutes before serving

Okay...so I love it when the time changes in the fall. Suppose to mean I get an hour to sleep in today...did I ?? NO.
I got up this morning and fixed my dad and husband a big country breakfast. I was proud of myself for passing on it. I had an Atkin's shake instead. Of course tonight I had half of a steak sandwich. I did okay today on food though. I did some cleaning, but mostly I worked on my new dining room table. Well it is not new...it is 140 years old, but I painted it and made it primitive. I'll post some pictures of my primitive country home as soon as I finish getting it all ready for the holiday's. I love anything primitive country. I would love to find an old hen box. It is made from wood and has like 10 cubbies. I'd just die if I found that at a reasonable price..anyway.
I'm getting ready to go practice making a "Sugar Free" Pumpkin Roll. If it turns out good...I'll post the recipe. I'm using wheat flour and splenda. I'm not a baker, but I'm practicing to make perfection before Thanksgiving. I hadn't made fudge since I helped my mother when I was a little girl and I'm finally bonifide so I'll get bonifide with the Pumpkin roll also. LOL. I'm so into baking and cooking these days.
A lot of you have asked how dad is. Well...honestly...he's driving me batty, but I love every minute of it. If I've shown him 1 time I've showed him a 1000 where his bedroom is today. He thinks his bedroom is his house because I have his room set up like an apartment with his things in it. He'll say, "Well I better get to the house." Or the funny thing is he jumps on to me for not wearing shoes when I stop over to visit him. He'll say, "Why in the world do you come down here without your shoes." I am honest with him and I will say, "Well dad...I just live in the other room so I don't have to wear my shoes". He'll act like he gets it, but then he'll say..."Baby lock the door when you leave". You have to laugh, but then on the other hand it is sad.
Well tomorrow it is back to work. I don't want to rush life, but I sure do love the weekends. Everyone have a blessed week.
Hugs!
Sandra

November 1st, 2008 - A gorgeous FALL day in Ohio on November 1, 2008 1:53 pm
What a gorgeous fall day here in Ohio. I've so much to do and am so lazy I don't want to do anything. I need to start my deep cleaning for Thanksgiving, but for some reason today I am exhausted. Dad and I ran some errands this morning. We went to the bank and to the store. I picked up most of my dry goods for Thanksgiving dinner today. I usually start early so I don't have to do it at the last minute. With Gary having surgery it will be all the more beneficial this year to have as much done as I can.
The scales were my friend this morning. I was so excited to lose another pound. I am actually down 2 lbs this month. Only 17 more to go to reach 150 lbs. only 2 more lbs to reach my current goal of 165lbs. I can do it. I just have to stay away from the carbs!!! I haven't been as faithful in the workout area these days. I've been working a lot of hours and am too tired to get up in the mornings. I have to get out of that funk and soon.
Well...I may take a short nap, then get up and start laundry. Happy Saturday.

My Story My story begins when I was in 3rd grade and my parents decided to move. I'm not 100% sure this is why I started gaining weight, but I think it helped. Being uprooted at that age really had an impact on me. I started a new school and had no friends. I started eating more. Before this I can remember friends and family members asking my mother if I was sick because I was so skinny. By the time I was a freshman in high school I weighed a 176lbs. In my senior year I joined weight watchers and dropped 34lbs. After graduating I became pregnant and gained a whopping 72lbs. and went up to 218. At 23 I was at 204lbs, met my husband and we got pregnant and I gained an additional 18lbs. Married life agreed with me and by 1998 I weighed 298lbs. I can remember being rushed to the emergency room with chest pains. My cariologist said that I was just having anxiety attacks but that I was a walking time bomb. I started a diet using Metabolife and doing everything low fat. It took a year, but I lost 72lbs and dropped down to 224lbs. by October 1999. On January 11th, 2001 my five year old neice, Charity, drowned in a bath tub and the emotions from that started my down hill slide and rapid weight gain. Then in 2001 I lost my mother who was my best friend. It was a rollercoaster ride. Along my way I tried many diets such as Atkins, Slim Fast, Optifast, and even called Jenny, but Weight Watcher's was the most successful for me. Of course the minute I stop counting points I start gaining again. In mid 2001 I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, Asthma, and a severe case of Sleep Apnea. In January of 2006 I was in the ER again but this time with Cellulitus in both legs, the right being more severe. I had another flare up in July of 2006. It has been a constant worry with my legs. So afraid of losing them like my Grandfather lost his. I was told that the blood that pumps down my legs doesn't all come back up. Some of it is pooling to the top of the skin causing the cellulitus. I had a bunch of tests for blood clots and heart issues. In July 2007 my husband was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertention and a week later I was diagnosed with Left Ventricular Hypertrophy. Talking about a double whammy. Both my husband's doctor and my doctor recommended blood pressure medicine to bring the blood pressure down. I've always had low blood pressure so it shocks me to know that I am now on a 100mg of Cozar. Blood pressure medicine wasn't the only prescription...for me it included weight loss. My doctor said that the only thing that would reduce my left ventrical would be to lose weight. My success rate hasn't been a success so I revisted the thoughts of having the RNY bypass. Of course my insurance will not cover anything related to obesity which is such a joke. So I had to come up with the cash for the surgery. I called Dr. Fallang's office to schedule an appointment. He was the Dr. who had done a friend's surgery. It took forever for his scheduler to call me back and I am a very inpatient person so I started looking for someone else. Apparently Dr. Fallang is downsizing and retiring from doing surgeries. From what I understand there was a big who ha with him and a patient and malpractice insurance. Made me a little concerned. I sent out a few emails to the different places in Cincinnati, Ohio that done the gastric surgeries and I promptly received an email from Dr. Trace Curry's office manager. The self pay price was $500 cheaper and included a years worth of preop care. Even better his office was only 3 minutes from my office in Blue Ash, Ohio. Things have been moving fast....as of today (August 17th) I am 12 days away from going liquid for preop and I have 25 days till my laproscopic RNY bypass. I am so excited, but scared all the same.
