Leading Medicine
The Methodist Hospital has earned worldwide recognition since it opened its doors in 1919.
As a private, adult teaching hospital for Weill Medical College of Cornell University, it directs millions of research dollars into patient care and offers the latest innovations in medical, surgical and diagnostic techniques. Methodist also maintains various joint programs with Baylor College of Medicine.
The hospital, one of only a handful in Texas recognized by The Best Hospitals in America, is among the country's largest non-profit health care providers. Its medical staff, meanwhile, include dozens of physicians listed in The Best Doctors in America.
Methodist Weight Management Center
The Weight Management Center is a program designed to help those battling with their weight choose the best medical route to lose weight and begin leading healthier lives.
As the only comprehensive program of its kind in Houston, the goal of the Center is to help you lose weight and successfully keep it off by sharing our knowledge, expertise and guidance through all phases of your weight loss.
We believe that weight loss and weight maintenance are complex, and treatment options vary for different patients. Treatment approaches for weight loss should depend on the patient’s weight, health, lifestyle and individual needs.
Weight Loss Surgery (Gastric Bypass and LAP-BAND©) offers patients with a BMI of at least 35 an effective tool in losing and maintaining weight loss along with improvements in many diseases such as diabetes, sleep apnea and hypertension. In order to prepare patients for surgery, and to help guide and support them after surgery, our team of dietitians, counselors, exercise physiologist and your surgeon provide many services and programs.
In addition to surgery, our programs also include a medical weight management program, medical nutrition therapy and diabetes education.

Since, I've worked for the owners of several hospitals, in the past anytime I have been hospitalized, I have been extremely spoiled. This time no one knew who I was and I felt neglected during the day. It would take multiple attempts to get a nurse to the room and I just started doing things myself or going into the hall. I'm not used to that. |
| Comments: |
The surgical staff pre-op and post op staff were amazing. I only had problems once I got to my room. I think everyone was extremely busy trying to prepare for a hurricane that hit the day after I was discharged. |

Not my favorite, but I was pleasantly suprised at the care and attention I received. I love St. Lukes, but Dr. Marvin didn't work there, so Methodist was the next best...the nurses were awesome...as good as my experiences with St. Lukes, and I was really impressed. |
| Comments: |
This was a day surgery, and my only complaint was that they moved my surgery up 2 hours and didn't tell me, so when I was checking in I was actually supposed to be going into surgery. So everything went really fast. I loved my anesthesiologist, she was awesome. And the nurses were great, funny and supportive. I was very impressed!!! |

| It was required by my insurance company, Aetna, to go to Methodist because that is one of the two hospitals where Dr. Garth Davis practices, and the only one in-network. Aetna would not allow me to go to University General Hospital, which is where I wanted to go. I was highly disappointed when they would not allow me to go out of network, even though University General would treat my surgery and stay as though it WERE in network! SHAME ON AETNA! |
| Competitors: |
Haven't stayed in many hospitals, but I KNEW I wanted to stay at University General Hospital when I took a tour. From the appearance, there is NO comparison between Methodist and University General. I told Dr. Davis that as soon as I entered Methodist, I felt like I was in a third-world country! |
| Comments: |
After surgery, a room was not available for me. I remained in recovery for hours (until about 9:30 p.m.) until a room did come available. When I was moved to my room, it was not even on the bariatric floor. Dr. Davis was NOT happy about this. When I finally arrived at my room, I did NOT receive a very warm welcome. Instead, I was made to feel as though I was intruding. I wanted to walk (very important!) and the nurse refused to let me walk, even though I had already walked twice after my surgery earlier that day. The volunteer even told the nurse, himself, that I had already walked and wanted to walk again before going to bed. (Yes, I felt THAT good!) The room was not prepared. The bed was in the middle of the floor, blocking the bathroom door. (I did not even realize it was the bathroom!) While standing with my I.V. pole, waiting for the nurse to walk with me, she turned to look at me and said, "Are you just going to stand there? Sit down on the bed." (My husband had already gone home because we did not think I would ever get a room and it was getting late.) I actually walked by myself to a different hospital wing asking for help. When they would not help because I was not "their patient", I asked them to call security. I felt very alone (for the first time in my life) and I did NOT feel safe and secure. There was NO ONE TO HELP ME! I am sorely disappointed with The Methodist Hospital. I thought it would be top-notch since people from all over the world go there. The physcians may be great, but some of the nurses have pitiful attitudes. I will NEVER forget my experience at The Methodist Hospital as long as I live. And, by the way, I am not the cranky person it may seem from reading this post. The story you just read is absolutely true. Life is too short to be a complainer and I was "high on life" from just having had gastric bypass surgery which took 1-1/2 years preparing for. If at all possible, go to University General Hospital and the surgeons who practice there for your bariatric surgery! |

To me, Methodist Hospital is the best in Houston, TX. I enjoy working there and I enjoyed my hospital stay. The lobby of the hospital looks like a hotel. It is immaculate and the staff gives you a lot of comfort and ease in whatever type of surgery one has. |

I have not had a lot of experience with other hospitals but Methodist far exceeds the ones that I have dealt with. |
| Comments: |
I was so pleased at how great the staff at Methodist was. They were all very supportive of the type surgery I was having and no one treated me like I was taking the easy way out. I also had one nurse tell me how pretty I was and that it was going to be fantastic when I got the rest of my "sexy" on. I didn't take this as an insult at all. It was said with absolute support. There was also a person that took me to the pre-op area and when we got there, he quietly wispered to me that his sister had lap-band surgery 6 months ago and not only did it save her life, but that she looks amazing. If I ever have to stay in the hospital for any reason, Methodist will be my first choice. |
